The Digital Enterprise LIVE

The Digital Enterprise is the story of CNT Industries, a fictitious manufacturing company. It demonstrates an integrated end-to-end workflow across 12+ SAP solutions and function modules.

We tell the story of a CNT client – a local startup beer brewery that uses new brewing techniques – which requires new warehouse robots and a high bay storage extension to support their production process.

Our journey goes across different SAP components, starting with a customer inquiry and purchase order, over planning and production, up to delivering manufactured goods to the customer. The session covers various solutions, including SAP S/4HANA, SAP CX, SAP CPQ, SAP Ariba, SAP FSM, S/4HANA PP/DS, SAP DMC, and SAP Analytics.

The Sales Story from Quote to Plan

We start the journey with a customer inquiry in SAP CX Sales Cloud, which turns into a configuration requirement with SAP CPQ and a sales order in SAP S/4HANA SD, after which initial planning is done with S/4HANA MRP and PP/DS. learn more

The Procurement Story from Source to Order

The story continues with creating an RFP for materials with SAP Ariba, which is awarded, and an order placed with the SAP Business Network. Materials are received and tracked in SAP S/4HANA MM. learn more

The Manufacturing Story from Plan to Manufacturing

The third part of the story covers the manufacturing process for the ordered products. The production process starts in SAP S/4HANA PP/DS for planning, a production order is released in S/4HANA PP, and the product is manufactured with SAP DMC. learn more

The Service Story from Plan to Manufacturing

The story’s final installment covers the service story. SAP IAN is used to continuously monitor the equipment sold, and SAP Service Cloud is used to track service incidents. An incident raises a ticket, and SAP FSM is used to deploy a service technician. Learn more

Plot 1 of The Digital Enterprise:

The Sales Story from Quote to Plan

The Sales Story starts with an email customer inquiry from the local brewery and the integration into the web-based SAP Sales Cloud CRM system. Here customer activities such as visits or meeting notes are managed, and the lead is converted into an opportunity with integrations into SAP S/4HANA, where client data, such as past orders and total revenue, already exists since it is an existing client of CNT Industries.

The Sales Rep uses the recently implemented web-based SAP CPQsolution (Configure Price Quote) to configure the warehouse robot and storage bay extension and creates a PDF quote linked to the SAP Sales Cloud.

Our local brewery reviews the quote likes what they see, and sends a Purchase Order to CNT Industries. The order processing team reviews the PO, matches it with the quote from the Sales Rep, and enters them into SAP S/4HANA SD (Sales Distribution).

The manufacturing team is notified to review the order and conducts an initial Production Planning in SAP MRP(Material Requirement Planning) and SAP PP/DS (Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling). It is determined that the new order requires materials to be acquired that are not in stock which triggers the second part of our Digital Enterprise story.

Plot 2 of The Digital Enterprise:

The Procurement Story from Source to Order

The CNT Industries procurement team receives notification from the manufacturing team about new material requirements with precise specifications. The procurement team reviews the specifications in SAP S/4HANA and identifies no specific supplier for these materials. The team creates an RFP with SAP Ariba, the web-based procurement solution from SAP. Within only a few days, proposals are received and reviewed in SAP Ariba. The RFP is awarded to the best supplier, and a purchase order is created in SAP S/4HANA Central Procurement. The order is transmitted to the supplier with the SAP Ariba Business Network, which confirms the order within the network and then sends the confirmation back to SAP S/4HANA. Within a few days, goods are received and recorded in SAP S/4HANA MM (Material Management) as new raw materials.

CNT Industries is now ready for production, which is the next part of our story.

Plot 3 of The Digital Enterprise:

The Manufacturing Story from Plan to Manufacturing

Back at the production team, the notification arrives that all materials for the new customer order are at the warehouse. In addition to early demand planning, the manufacturing team now conducts final material and capacity planning with SAP S/4HANA PP/DS (Production Planning and detailed scheduling). Manufacturing resources and machine utilization are adjusted for the new order, and the Production Order is released in SAP S/4HANA PP (Production Planning).

From SAP PP, the manufacturing team seamlessly continues the web-based SAP DMC (Digital Manufacturing Cloud) process to produce the warehouse robot and the storage bay extension. After manufacturing, the new product is immediately serialized within SAP DMC so that all manufacturing and quality management-related data are captured and tied to the product. Packaging, in this case, is also managed in the Manufacturing Cloud.

The manufacturing team finishes its processes by ensuring the product is registered in the SAP Service Cloud as Digital Twin for future maintenance.

The production process is completed, and the product moves to the warehouse. It is tracked with SAP S/4HANA EWM (Enterprise Warehouse Management) and finally shipped to the customer supported by SAP S/4HANA TM(Transport Management).

The Sales Rep is regularly notified in the SAP Sales Cloud along the manufacturing and delivery process and personally updates his customer with important milestones.

After the product is delivered, it is installed at the customer site without any incidents, and the brewery immediately adds it to its production lines, where it operates without incidents.

Plot 4 of The Digital Enterprise:

The Service Story from Plan to Manufacturing

With the SAP Intelligent Asset Management solution, CNT Industries continuously monitors the new robot at the client. Production has been running steady 24×7 with the new warehouse robots for six months when one of the sensors shows consistent readings above defined thresholds. This triggers an automated ticket back at CNT Industries within the SAP Service Cloud. An in-house service technician reviews current and past readings of the sensors and determines that a component within the robot shows signs of weakening and should be replaced proactively as soon as possible. He tracks his findings in the SAP Service Cloud, creates a ticket, prioritizes the same, and routes it to the field service team.

The field service team gets notified and reviews the ticket. CNT Industries uses SAP FSM (Field Service Management) to manage all their field service workflows. It is determined that a spare part that is not in stock is needed, and an order for the same is triggered. After a confirmed delivery estimate from the vendor, the Service Technician is scheduled for an on-site service call. Using SAP FSM, the deployment is managed end-to-end, including documentation of the service work completed and the time spent on the deployment. Finally, the ticket is closed in the SAP Service Cloud.
